Why...

There are lots of activities in the local area, some are within walking distance, with many more a bus ride or drive away. The historic cobbled fishing village of Clovelly is a picturesque walk away, with year round events, the Ben Kingsley Museum, Clovelly Court Gardens, artisan shops, donkey rides and classic English Tea rooms & pubs. You can charter a boat into the sea life and if you are lucky see dolphins and seals, or simply take short fishing trip with one of the generations of local experienced fishermen.

Uphill on the main road you can find The Milky Way Adventure Park and North Devon Wakepark are 5 minutes by car or bus and great for young and older kids alike. A little further Bucks Mills & its post office shop, here the National Trust artists cabin of Judith Ackland and Mary Stella Edwards is preserved for visitors looking out over the beach.   

Another adventure park The Big Sheepand the Atlantic Village Shopping Centre are around 20 minutes drive. The supermarkets as well as local butchers will also deliver. In the opposite direction it is a 30 minute drive to the National Trust Hawkers hut, Sandy Mouth Beach, Hartland Quay, Morwenstow with Widemouth Bay & Bude further. A longer trip of an hour towards Barnstaple will take you to to Croyde, Woolacombe and Westward Ho beaches, all beaches are good surfing spots and often offer taster lessons or courses.

Finally further a field for day trips there is obviously Lundy Island, known for its rugged terrain and Puffins, the Oldenburg sails from Bideford bay or you can even go by helicopter. The gnome reserve is a special place for kids not so far from the cottage and then there is Tintagel and Port Isaac further along the coast in to Cornwall.
